Well I'm not sure how to start this so I guess I'll just start along and see what happens. I'm doing this for a couple of reasons:
1) A few people that I know are doing this and I really enjoy reading what they have to say. My cousins especially have piqued my interest because they are pretty incredible people who I don't have the pleasure of seeing too often, so by reading their blogs, I am able to see a little into what they are doing. I hope that they are interested enough and patient enough to do the same with me.
2) I saw an episode of the Henry Rollins show in which he went off about blogging. He said something to the effect of "now every midwestern, middle-aged housewife can write down her feelings and feel special." Well I don't like stereotypes, so I'm here to break that.
3) I love the written word but don't get to practice it enough. I spend my days editing business research, and a good amount of my extra time reading for pleasure, but my actual written output has certainly waned since I went to college. I keep a little pad and pen near my bed, but usually what I write down amounts to cryptic notes about tunnels written slantways across the page, and which never ring a bell in the morning. This is my release, and I hope it benefits me, or you, or someone.
4) I had an interview not too long ago, for the job I recently started, in which the interviewer asked me, "Do you blog?" I said no, but that it sounded like a good idea. This is me coming through on that.
Yeah, so that's a great story.
Anyhoo, as some may be able to tell, I culled the title of this blog from the Big Lebowski. It is a perfect movie: quotable, funny, memorable characters, gives you the incentive to drink White Russians, and endlessly rewatchable. I thought this line "That's like your opinion...man" was particularly appropriate for me. I am not super-opinionated, but in saying that it's my opinion, I am putting up a shield to say "Hey, if you don't agree/like this/find no redeeming qualities in me, well at least it is only my opinion and not my lifelong ambitions." Everything is a defense mechanism these days.
I'm going to try to keep he editing to a minimum, which means that there will probably be mistakes in both grammar and spelling. I would rather have fewer pre-meditated posts, though, so I guess that's the pay-off. This all might change at some point. I am new in this place - please be kind.
So, I guess that's it. Anything else? Oh yeah.
